What's my handicap you ask. Poor balance, I swing with one arm, and I can't remember my score. I'm not a golf instructor nor do I play one one YouTube. I am a six year stroke survivor that decided to dust off my old clubs and try to play again. I googled "one arm golf swing" and found lots of stories and videos of disabled golfers, some with one arm but not much info on the transition from two handed to one handed golf. I'll always be a work in progress but wanted to share what an old right handed golfer has learned so far. The grip. After practice swings and chipping plastic balls in the back yard I decided to visit my local driving range. I wacked away a small bucket with my trusty seven iron. I found that my right hand position remained the same while my left arm dangled at my side. Gripped it like a hammer with my thumb on top and the clubface square. After that small bucket I knew I had to replace my full cord grips. I tried a right handed golf glove but always needed help putting it on and off. I keep it incase of rain but like my new tour wraps. It is possible to change golf grips singlehanded as noted in the handyman section. The stance should remain the same. Why would it change. I was swinging like I used to but without my left arm. I still place the ball in the same positions that I did when playing two handed. I just look like I'm going to topple over after taking a full swing at the ball. The right arm should be straight and feel like an extension of the club. It should remain straight during the back and forth swing, no tucking in your right elbow. The momentum of your club will bend your elbow at the end of the swing. I didn't try to alter my swing plane from what it used to be. |
